This to is a bit of a late post. Last month my mum and I finally took the plunge and signed up to a painting furniture work shop. Now, I’m not the most creative but when my mum told me about this groupon deal I couldn’t help but get excited.
Upcycling and shabby chic furniture is something I have a fetish for these last months. So expect a few more furniture related posts.
The workshop was in Birmingham jewellery quarter. And if you’re still quick you can still grab the deal on groupon!
The studio was big and airy with plenty of space and plenty of refreshments. You are asked to bring with you a piece of small furniture as long as it’s no bigger than a table. A lot of people who attended the workshop were looking to do this sort of thing as a hobby, and so was I. My mum and I bought two small tables; but there were photo frames, mirrors, stools and a little ladder there. Although I have to warn you that parking isn’t great and there are some steep stairs, so choose wisely. The event was organised my Thistle and Throws who not only teach you the art of painting furniture but also offer the products at a reasonable price so you can do it from home afterwards. Now I’m not going to tell you how to upcycle furniture in this post, I mean you have to check out the workshop. But afterwards I came out feeling motivated and excited to start my painting furniture hobby. I may have also purchased a chest of drawers ready.
This workshop not only preps you with the supplies and knowledge but also the motivation to start this as a real hobby. What’s also great about this class is that it’s not chalk paint like other places recommend. Instead they sell the chalk, which allows you to use any emulsion paint, you just gotta mix it together. Saves you spending all your money on a tub of chalk paint and having to paint everything that colour. I just buy sample pots and use those.
Have a look at Thistle and Throws website for more details.
