I know we’re now almost a whole month into 2018, but I can’t help but reflect on the year that has passed us by. In just a flash of a camera 2017 has come and gone. I have had so many amazing moments of 2017, but equally a few lows of the year. I think it’s so important to reflect on each year, month and week that passes us by and be grateful for all that we have experienced.
A TRIP TO THE NETHERLANDS
One of the highs of 2017 was, of course, heading back to the country that I love. With a Dutch heritage visiting Holland was not just a magical few days for myself, but it was the fact that I went with my Mum too. Spending those few days in the country that my Grandad grew up and spent his childhood, was delightful. I also had the chance of meeting one of my second Cousins, which was wonderful.
Another highlight of 2017 has got to be visiting and experiencing the interesting place that is Damanhur. The spiritual community opened my eyes to a different perspective and an alternative way of living. As I continue to explore the world, I want to encounter and appreciate the varied cultures and beliefs around the globe.
COMPLETING AN MA IN TRAVEL WRITING
2017 marked the completion of my Master’s degree in Travel Writing. I graduate in February, which I’m so excited about, it makes all the hard work worth it. I’m not sure where this degree will take me, but I’m excited to see where it leads.
THE JOB HUNT
One of the lows of 2017 was the dreaded job hunt and the stress that comes with it. There is so much pressure for Graduates in succeeding in the job market. With an already saturated market, it’s so easy to feel like a failure, but you must follow your dreams.
Unfortunately, this year illness has been the worst low. The illness is not with me, but a close family member. It’s difficult to keep a positive perspective whilst your family is going through an uncertain time. But it has definitely put a lot of things into perspective for me and has encouraged me to follow my own dreams and aspirations.
Last year has definitely confirmed my aspirations and my travel dreams. This year I want to make my dream of travelling the world a reality. I’m going to put my heart into my writing and hopefully turn this dream into a reality.
WEEKLY BLOG POSTS
I must confess, I do find it difficult to find the time to dedicate myself to Consumed by Wanderlust. This year, I’m going to turn my blog into more of a priority, as this is the hobby I am most passionate about. I want to try and aim for a post at least once a week and then hopefully twice a week.
I’m really thinking about creating a monthly newsletter for those people who read my blog. Is this something you would like to see? I fancy creating a monthly letter that outlines what’s happening for the month, any travel plans and any recommendations. – Let me know what you think.
I need to travel a lot more this year. I haven’t got any trips planned at the moment, but I’m hoping I will have shortly. So watch this space!
